Phuket Golf : History and Success story in Thailand

Known from golf enthusiasts, Thailand is one of the most highly prized destinations and offers golf courses which are popular in many regions in the country.

Golf came 100 years ago in Thailand during the reign of King Rama V. It was played for the first time by people of noble birth and by some other elitists of the society, but since then things have changed for sure. During the past ten years, golf became more and more popular, giving Thai people, expatriates, and foreign tourists the chance to visit the country.

The first golf game was registered in 1905 at the Royal Sport Club but the first 18-hole golf club, recognized as fitting the international standards, is the Royal Hua Hin. It was built in 1924 by a Scottish engineer, thanks to the building of a train station of the summer palace of Emperor Rama VI in Hua Hin.

The topographic al diversity and elegance of the courses offers a world-widely known challenge and some of them are considered as the most beautiful in the whole Asia. With their excellent facilities and high class comfort, most of the Golf Clubs have restaurants, bars and may provide Spa services and massages as well as apartments, villas or hotels. Whether big golf complex are close to the capital city, in the South, or in the North within the mountains, they offer exceptional hospitality skills.

The most favorable period to come and play golf in Phuket is between November and April during the Dry Season. From May to October, it is the rainy season, it is muggy and it can rain on and off but generally at the end of the day.

The two months to avoid are June and October because it may keep raining during several days, but most of the time rain is on and off. Moreover, most of the golf courses have a good drainage system and rains should not interrupt the game for long.

Thus, the climate allows playing all year round and the young cadettes in their nice uniforms, with their hat and stole, will carry your clubs. They know all about golf tricks and that can prevent you from some useless points on a scorecard. Advice: it is highly recommended to give a tip.

Some clubs propose golf carts to rent but on many courses, the car should stay on the track and that is less handy. The course is well maintained and you can rent clubs, shoes and caddies if you want to perfect your technique or simply hit a few balls.
